When I started this paper, Joe Vargo became a mentor. He helped me become the journalist I am today. I miss his right wing rantings and ravings and his beat up Toyota Corolla with the hole in the floor.
He was a very good mentor for students at RCC who worked on the newspaper there. It's a shame the PE forced these good reporters out the door. Not good for the democracy.
What can i say? There will never be another Joe Vargo. He's funny, ornery and ALWAYS working on big, important stories for the press-enterprise. If you made it on his list of good reporters, consider yourself blessed.
